The Center for Leadership & Service offers a comprehensive student leadership opportunity that provides students with a valuable experience in molding and shaping potential student leaders. Students develop many leadership skills, para-professional experiences, and become integrated in multiple student leadership communities.

We are looking for servant leaders who want to be a part of our Core Services Leadership Team. This Core team works collaboratively with other student work teams to support, assist, and promote all student programs and activities at HCC. Core Services members are welcoming and encourage participation and leadership development through student communities.

CRCs are the first point of contact for people entering our office spaces. CRCs offer administrative support and resource assistants to clubs, the campus community, and CLS professional staff.

Work Expectations

 

Hours:strong>

Core Services members are expected to work 30 hours per week during Summer Training and 15 hours per week during the school year.  Position start date is September 4th.

 

Wage:

All student leadership positions are paid minimum wage.

Academics:

Students are expected to maintain a class load of 6 credits (minimum) and 2.5 GPA during each quarter of employment.

Second job:

The significant commitments necessary to work in the Center for Leadership and Service, in addition to achieving academic success, second jobs are strongly discouraged and will be a consideration in the hiring process.

Evaluation:

Students are evaluated quarterly to assess their own leadership and personal growth. Continued employment is contingent upon receiving satisfactory performance evaluations.

Mandatory Trainings

 

To help Core Services members gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful servant leaders, we offer an extensive training program. All members are required to participate in the following training activities:

 

  • Summer Training: September 3-20
    Summer training consists of workshops and preparing you for the work you will do during the year. In addition, students spend time doing advance planning for the year’s events and activities.

 

  • Summer Retreat/Leadership Conference: September 5-7
    During our first week of training we will participate in a state-wide conference, along with student leaders from other Washington State Community Colleges in Wenatchee, WA.

 

  • Winter Leadership Retreat: December 2012
    The Winter Retreat is an opportunity to reflect on the successes and failures of fall quarter, and to make plans for the remainder of the year. This is a two-day overnight retreat at a local camp. Student government officers, club leaders and other student leaders will also join us.

 

  • First Fridays Leadership Institute: 1st Friday of every month
    The Leadership Institute is a year-round leadership and professional skill building program. Workshops will be offered on campus the first Friday of each month (2-4 pm), dealing with topics such as public speaking, conflict resolution, philosophy of leadership, etc. Center for Leadership and Service staff are required to attend these monthly workshops in order to continue professional development and increase the effectiveness of our programs.
